NFL Week 5 preview: every line, every matchup and where I'm leaning
By George Boyle · Oct 6, 2026
The theme this week: a lot of these games would have had me excited back in Week 1, but between injuries and teams underperforming, it's a pretty mild slate. There are still a few spots to attack, so let's dive in with a quick look at each game and where I'm leaning early.
Slate at a glance
- 15 games; Carolina and Kansas City are on bye.
- Biggest spread: Dallas -8 vs. Tampa Bay on Thursday night, with Jacksonville and Houston both around -7.5.
- Highest totals: Bills @ Rams and Lions @ Cardinals (54.5 at most books). Lowest: Texans @ Titans (38).
- Biggest line move: Ravens @ Falcons swung about 9 points, from Ravens -6 on the lookahead to Falcons -3.5 after Lamar Jackson's ankle injury.
- London: Eagles vs. Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sunday at 9:30 AM ET.
- Quarterbacks: Jalon Daniels (TB) and Tyson Bagent (CHI) start again, Tyler Huntley is expected to start for Baltimore, and Jayden Daniels is expected back for Washington.

How to read the game cards: each one shows the consensus spread and total, the score the market implies, and how each offense stacks up against the defense it faces in EPA per play, success rate, points per drive and sack rate, with league ranks (green = top 10, red = bottom 10).

Buccaneers at Cowboys
Thu Oct 8 · 8:15 PM ET · AT&T Stadium

- The line: DAL -7.5 to -8.5, total 47.5. Market-implied score: DAL 27.8, TB 19.8.
- News: Jalon Daniels makes his second start with Baker Mayfield out (dislocated thumb). Both teams are on a short week.
- Full matchup page: Buccaneers at Cowboys
Unstoppable force vs. immovable object, or really the exact opposite here: this horrid Dallas defense against a banged-up Bucs offense. The Bucs offense wasn't as bad as I expected last week without Baker, but a short week plus travel brings its own issues. The one plus: this Dallas defense hasn't stopped anyone all year.
The spot my projections like is Egbuka rec yards over, and I'm not against it given how leaky the Dallas defense is, but I need to dig in and crack the code on why his targets dropped last week (just 4). On the other side, the Dallas offense is the CeeDee and Dak show, but it feels like they'll force the ball to Pickens here too so he doesn't melt down over targets (3 last week after 6, 8 and 11). I was hoping for a discounted line on him, but I'm seeing ~60, so I'll probably stay away.
Nothing I'm running to the window for, but the Under is my lean here, along with a few TB props to go over. Those lines feel a bit short given the uncertainty.
Eagles at Jaguars
Sun Oct 11 · 9:30 AM ET · Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

- The line: JAX -7 to -7.5, total 41.5–42.5. Market-implied score: JAX 24.8, PHI 17.2.
- News: Tank Bigsby (core surgery) is on IR, and Saquon Barkley (hamstring) is a question mark; Nick Sirianni said there would be more answers Wednesday.
- Full matchup page: Eagles at Jaguars
This feels like a clear slam spot for Jacksonville -7 (still -7 at DraftKings and FanDuel, -7.5 most other places), and I'll be betting it once this post is up. I think it can push out to -8 by game time.
This Eagles team is clearly having issues very similar to last year, except last year they at least had the talent to work out of it, with A.J. Brown, Saquon and a very solid offensive line. This year I just don't see it. I might find a way to bet a Wicks or Lemon rec yards over, but it doesn't feel great, especially if DeVonta Smith is back.
Jacksonville, on the other hand, looks excellent to start the season, with its only loss coming at Denver, which is an extremely difficult place to play. One of the most surprising things to me is how bad this Philly defense looks, so I like a few props on the Jacksonville side. I think they move the ball. Parker Washington at over 59.5 rec yards, as gross as that sounds after his dud last week burned everyone, or Bhayshul Tuten, who has clearly taken over as RB1 and is projected for 15-18 carries with a line of 59.5. I'll start the week just on the over, but will most likely end up laddering it to 100. He had a massive 44-yard TD run called back for holding last week, and I think he gets his revenge.
Bears at Packers
Sun Oct 11 · 1:00 PM ET · Lambeau Field

- The line: CHI -2.5 to -3, total 45.5–46. Market-implied score: GB 21.2, CHI 24.2.
- News: Tyson Bagent starts again with Caleb Williams (hamstring) out for a third straight game.
- Full matchup page: Bears at Packers
Lining this game at the start of the season, it had to be close to a pick'em or Packers -2 or -3. With the Packers looking awful through four weeks, the Bears are somehow -3 without Caleb Williams.
The most interesting part of this game to me is who gets the lion's share of the carries between Swift and Monangai. After Swift's fumble in the third quarter last week, Monangai took over and finished with 30 carries and 2 TDs. I'll most likely go back to Swift here, thinking he gets his usual work back and is out of the doghouse, but I want to see where the props open. I'm assuming one side gets pushed up or down pretty quickly.
The other prop that has my eye is Loveland after his 9-target game last week, with Bagent starting again. Slow start to the year, but as we saw last year the talent is clearly there and they love him in Chicago, so I don't see it slowing down. I'll most likely bump Loveland's target share up manually and pull a bit from Kalif Raymond and Odunze, since I think there's a decent sell opportunity there.
The Packers, on the other hand, look truly terrible, and everyone who said Love was a fraud is being proven right. I'm probably late to the party, but Matthew Golden's targets to start the year are very promising (12, 6, 12 and 7), and with what should be a slightly trailing script, that sets up decently.
As good as the Bears offense looks, I think this plays as a bit more of a boring game. I'll lean toward the under. I like a 21-17 Bears win, because I don't think this is the week the Packers turn that horrible offense around.
Bengals at Dolphins
Sun Oct 11 · 1:00 PM ET · Hard Rock Stadium

- The line: CIN -7 to -7.5, total 42–43. Market-implied score: MIA 17.8, CIN 24.8.
- News: Ja'Marr Chase is in the concussion protocol and has to clear it by Sunday.
- Full matchup page: Bengals at Dolphins
This will end up being a pass for me. I lean Cincy -7 and the under, but it just doesn't draw much interest beyond that.
Browns at Jets
Sun Oct 11 · 1:00 PM ET · MetLife Stadium

- The line: NYJ -1 to -2.5, total 39.5–40.5. Market-implied score: NYJ 21.0, CLE 19.0.
- Full matchup page: Browns at Jets
The Browns being fun and frisky is definitely something. I'm not sure I agree with this line. I'd have it at a pick'em, since the only times we've seen the Jets offense look competent were Week 1 at Tennessee and against the Lions, who are fielding 11 traffic cones on defense.
Judkins over 57.5 rush yards (that's DraftKings; most books are 58.5-60.5) is going to be my favorite bet here. I'm not a believer in this Jets run defense. We just watched the Bears run for 231 yards on it, and after that pummeling they now have to deal with a Browns team coming off three extra days of rest. A fun bet on talent, and I'll probably end up laddering it up to 80 or 90 depending on the price.
I do think the sharps will get the Jets out to -3, or -2.5 at around -110, by game time, so I'll hold off on the side until Sunday morning and then fire. The Browns at +2.5 (already up at DraftKings) are also a nice Wong teaser spot, up to +8.5, with a low total to boot. If the Jets get all the way to -3, the tease no longer crosses the 3, so I'd rather tease the Browns before that.
What's a Wong teaser? A 6-point teaser that moves a line through both 3 and 7, the two most common margins in the NFL: underdogs of +1.5 to +2.5 get teased up to +7.5 to +8.5, and favorites of -7.5 to -8.5 get teased down to -1.5 to -2.5. In our backtest of the 2016-25 regular seasons, the underdog legs covered 77% of the time, the best of any teaser leg we tested and above the roughly 74% a two-team teaser at -120 needs. The favorite legs came in around 72%, so the dogs are where the edge is.
Texans at Titans
Sun Oct 11 · 1:00 PM ET · Nissan Stadium

- The line: HOU -7 to -7.5, total 37.5–38.5. Market-implied score: TEN 15.2, HOU 22.8.
- Full matchup page: Texans at Titans
Can it get any worse than this Houston pass defense? They're allowing the most fantasy points per game to WRs in the league and turning into a bit of a pass funnel behind their solid defensive front. It's surprising, given they have some of the most talent in the league at corner and safety, and they look lost out there…
Houston -7 in a pretty solid get-right spot is the current lean, and at -7.5 it's also a Wong teaser leg this week. There are quite a few of those, so the round robins will be getting bet.
Assuming the Titans have to keep airing it out from behind, Carnell Tate looks like exactly what Tennessee hoped for, with 9 and 12 targets the last two games. I think that continues, so I'll be a buyer, most likely on his rec yards and receptions overs depending on where they open.
Lean: Houston -7 and Over 38.
Colts at Steelers
Sun Oct 11 · 1:00 PM ET · Acrisure Stadium

- The line: PIT -1 to -3, total 44–44.5. Market-implied score: PIT 23.5, IND 21.0.
- News: Keenan Allen (groin) missed Week 4. Rico Dowdle (toe) has missed two straight games but is reportedly close to returning.
- Full matchup page: Colts at Steelers
Steelers off extra rest vs. the Colts off a London game… It feels like I never get either of these teams right, but I'll be on the Steelers at home against a Colts defense that let Washington's third-string rookie QB hang around into the fourth quarter last week… I think we see the usual Jonathan Taylor show, and this Indy receiving corps is so inconsistent I don't want to touch it, but I like some Jaylen Warren props if Dowdle misses again. We'll know more after Wednesday's practice, but I'm hoping he sits so I can get on Warren, who looks excellent again.
Steelers -2.5 will be a bet, and I lean over 44 (44.5 at most books).
Raiders at Patriots
Sun Oct 11 · 1:00 PM ET · Gillette Stadium

- The line: NE -3.5 to -4, total 44.5–45.5. Market-implied score: NE 24.2, LV 20.8.
- News: Mack Hollins left Week 4 with a calf injury; Mike Vrabel wasn't sure Monday when he would practice.
- Full matchup page: Raiders at Patriots
The Raiders look solid four games in, and with Brock Bowers back, the offense has had more success the last two weeks. The Patriots also seem to have found some footing, putting up 29 at Buffalo last week after getting run out of Jacksonville 35-6 the week before.
The only prop that has my interest is Mack Hollins' receiving yards over. We really should have hit the whole ladder last week if not for the calf injury, but if he's fully healthy and practicing, I'll go right back to it as long as the line lands around 37-43.
No stance on the side, but I think I'll be on the under 45.5.
Vikings at Saints
Sun Oct 11 · 1:00 PM ET · Caesars Superdome

- The line: MIN -1.5 to -2.5, total 41.5–42.5. Market-implied score: NO 20.0, MIN 22.0.
- Full matchup page: Vikings at Saints
Slam Saints spot. Curious whether this line gets out to -3, but Minnesota can't keep getting away with that terrible offense. A team led by Kyler Murray and giving major volume to old man Aaron Jones shouldn't be laying 2 or more on the road against just about anyone.
I don't want to mess with the props here, but Saints +2.5, the moneyline and Under 42.5 will all be bets.
Giants at Commanders
Sun Oct 11 · 1:00 PM ET · Northwest Stadium

- The line: WAS -3 to -3.5, total 43–44. Market-implied score: WAS 23.5, NYG 20.0.
- News: Jayden Daniels (elbow) is aiming to return after missing two games; Wednesday's practice report is the first real tell.
- Full matchup page: Giants at Commanders
As of Tuesday evening, it sounds like Daniels will be back. If so, Washington -3 before it's confirmed looks fine (BetRivers still has -3; most books are already at -3.5), and I expect it to get to -4 by Sunday.
The Commanders defense came to life a bit in the Seattle game and looked pretty decent last week in London, which is still a surprise after Dallas hung 37 on them in Week 2. I'm writing that one off a bit given the Daniels injury and being on the road. Depending on where a few prop lines open, I think attacking this vulnerable Giants run defense is the angle, so I'll be on JCM (Bill) over rush yards, expecting his usual 12-16 carries.
Two props I'm eyeing on the Giants side: Skattebo under rush yards against a solid run defense in a trailing script, and Isaiah Likely over rec yards once that line is posted.
Broncos at Chargers
Sun Oct 11 · 4:05 PM ET · SoFi Stadium

- The line: DEN -3.5, total 42–42.5. Market-implied score: LAC 19.5, DEN 23.0.
- Full matchup page: Broncos at Chargers
This will be a pass for me unless Denver gets down to -2.5. The Chargers look a bit better than they did in Weeks 1 and 2, but I just don't want to deal with it.
Lions at Cardinals
Sun Oct 11 · 4:25 PM ET · State Farm Stadium

- The line: DET -4.5 to -5.5, total 53.5–54.5. Market-implied score: ARI 24.6, DET 29.9.
- Full matchup page: Lions at Cardinals
A battle of two of the worst defenses in football, so the props will end up pretty inflated. I still think there are a couple of ways to attack this.
One quick note: Jeremiyah Love looked like he got hurt in the second half last week, so I'll keep an eye on the practice reports. He had 43 yards in the first quarter and still missed the first rung of the ladder at ~66 with 63 on the day, which was a bit disgusting, but I may go back to the well.
I'll attack this the same way we did Sunday night: QB and WRs over their yardages, then ladder up. Wilson and Trey McBride will be the go-tos, and I'll most likely bump Brissett's projection up a bit, since I think they move the ball at will like every team has against the Lions this year. Digging into the target share, McBride has had 10-13 targets in every game this year, so that usage holds. Where I think it bounces is Michael Wilson in trailing scripts: he saw 17 and 13 targets in Weeks 3 and 4 while trailing SF and NYG. (I'm discounting the Seattle game, since they could never move the ball. I think they do here.)
On the Detroit side, I think they want to slow these games down, which they seem incapable of doing. The main two here are Gibbs and the Sun God as they try to get some mojo back.
I'll keep betting overs and against the Lions until they fix these defensive issues, so Cards +5.5 and the over around 54 are the looks here. I'll most likely bet the props Thursday or Friday, before public money comes in over the weekend and drives them up.
49ers at Seahawks
Sun Oct 11 · 4:25 PM ET · Lumen Field

- The line: SEA -2.5 to -3, total 46–47.5. Market-implied score: SEA 24.8, SF 21.8.
- Full matchup page: 49ers at Seahawks
With how stacked this division is, I wrote off the 49ers a bit, but they've impressed so far on both sides of the ball, though maybe it's fair to say they haven't really been tested through Week 4. Seattle -2.5 will be the bet here (DraftKings; -3 most other places), and I'm glad the 49ers have looked so good so this line didn't balloon.
I'll also be on the under 47.5 (FanDuel; 46.5-47 elsewhere), since both of these offenses have played slow this season.
One thing that shocked me looking at this game: Purdy has taken zero sacks this season going into Week 5, which is insane. He looks excellent even with all the WR injuries they've dealt with, but I think Seattle gives him fits and holds them to 17-20ish.
Ravens at Falcons
Sun Oct 11 · 8:20 PM ET · Mercedes-Benz Stadium

- The line: ATL -3 to -3.5, total 43.5–44. Market-implied score: ATL 23.5, BAL 20.0.
- News: Lamar Jackson (ankle) has an outside chance to play; Tyler Huntley is expected to start.
- Full matchup page: Ravens at Falcons
A 9-point line move with Lamar most likely out. I'm not sure I've seen a 9-point move for a QB recently, but in the same breath, I think it moves another point. (It opened Ravens -6 on the lookahead, before Lamar got hurt Sunday.)
The Atlanta offense looks solid with Penix back, and now at home in the dome, I don't see it stopping. Baltimore looked so good in Week 1 but has wavered a bit since, and now without Lamar, who seemingly moves the ball down the field by himself (yes, I know Henry feels like he scores multiple every week; he's already at 7, tied for the league lead), I struggle to see how they get it done against a fantastic Falcons run defense.
I do think Baltimore can move the ball a bit through the air, and Zay is just always open this year, so I'll go back there even without Lamar.
I'm looking at more than a few props, so I'll list them out:
- Derrick Henry under 91.5 rush yards (BetRivers)
- Zay Flowers over 61.5 rec yards (BetOnline)
- Michael Penix Jr. under 224.5 pass yards (ESPN BET)
- Bijan Robinson over rush + rec yards if it dips toward 115 (119.5-123.5 right now)
- Brian Robinson Jr. over rush yards if it gets back down around 30 (34.5-36.5 right now)
Bills at Rams
Mon Oct 12 · 8:15 PM ET · SoFi Stadium

- The line: LA -3 to -3.5, total 54–54.5. Market-implied score: LA 28.8, BUF 25.8.
- News: DJ Moore (shoulder) is in serious doubt for Buffalo.
- Full matchup page: Bills at Rams
I was hoping this would be a pick'em with how LA has looked, but here we are at LA -3, which feels like an overreaction to Buffalo's loss last week.
Depending on DJ Moore's status, I'll be playing some Buffalo WR/TE roulette this week. I think they can move the ball in a game with a 54-point total.
For whatever it's worth, and maybe it's just hour three or four of writing on a Tuesday night, but this total at 54 and a Rams team total of 29 feel a bit off from reality. The only game the Rams actually looked competent for a full 60 minutes was against the Giants, when Dart got hurt in the first quarter. Stafford already has 6 INTs heading into Week 5. The only things going for them: Puka is back and Williams looks fantastic. But there are more question marks than you'd expect for the preseason Super Bowl favorite.
I'm not buying the spread or the total, so I'll stay away and fire a prop or two Monday in what looks like the game of the week.
Wrap-up
This was written Tuesday, so check the site throughout the week for updated projections and bets. Projections refresh a few times a week as injury news comes out of practice, and I'll have the rest of my bets up an hour or two before each Sunday kickoff for anything last-minute (earlier for the 9:30 AM London game).
Now I'm off to find a book that'll let me bet on the Eagles to finish last in their division.
